NWFL:  New season begins January 15 with more clubs participating

The Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, has approved Wednesday, January 15, 2025, as the kick-off date for the new season.

The announcement was made through a communiqué at the league’s Annual General Assembly on Tuesday.

The assembly resolved that the league would be played in a group format.

Group A consists of Edo Queens, Abia Angels, Ekiti Queens, Heartland Queens, Confluence Queens, Remo Stars Ladies, Nasarawa Amazons, and Dannaz Ladies FC.

Group B teams are Rivers Angels FC, Ibom Angels FC, Adamawa Queens, Naija Ratels FC, Honey Badgers FC, FC Robo Queens, Bayelsa Queens FC, and Delta Queens FC.

The opening fixture will be between defending champions Edo Queens and Abia Angels, which will take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

Meanwhile, the NWFL has concluded plans to increase the number of clubs participating in its league for the 2025-26 season.

The number of clubs will increase from 16 to 20 teams.

The league body states that arrangements will be established for a successful take-off.

The NWFL started with 12 teams in 2017.

Rivers Angels has won seven NWFL titles since its inception.
