NPFL: Tickets fee hike for Plateau United vs Kano Pillars match as battle for continental gets fierce

Plateau United have increased the gate fees for the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday 30 fixture against Kano Pillars.

Fans will be required to pay the sum of N500 to gain entrance to the stadium.

The encounter will take place at the New Jos Stadium in Jos.

The gate fee, which was initially fixed at N200, will be reverted from matchday 32.

“Management of Plateau United FC wishes to communicate an upward review of gate fee pass for the NPFL25 Match Day 30 schedule against visiting Kano Pillars FC in Jos,” Plateau United wrote on their Facebook page.

“Consequently, fans will be required to pay the sum of Five hundred Naira only ( 500) to gain entrance on the Match Day.

“However, it is key to note that the reviewed price is only about Match Day 30 while a revert to the usual price of two hundred Naira ( 200) continues from Match Day 32.”

Meanwhile, Gbenga Elegbeleye, the Chairman of NPFL has expressed excitement over the fierce battle for the league title and continental spots.

Remo Stars currently top the NPFL table with 54 points, while second placed Rivers United are on 46 points after 28 matches.

Ikorodu City, Shooting Stars, Rangers, Kano Pillars, Bendel Insurance and Abia Warriors are all in the hunt for a continental ticket.

Elegbeleye stated that the competition has been “unprecedented”.

He attributed the tight contest to improvements in match officiating that may have boosted clubs’ confidence.

“Teams now travel for away games with the mindset of winning rather than just defending for a point,” Elegbeleye stated.

“Ikorodu City’s performance has been impressive. They’ve shown that privately owned clubs can thrive in the NPFL with proper planning, recruitment and promotion.

“From struggling early in the season to now challenging for the title and continental spots, they’ve added excitement and credibility to the league. Their journey is a testament to what can be achieved with the right approach.”

Elsewhere, Abia Warriors captain Augustine Njoku has returned to training after his injury layoff.

Njoku spent around three weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

The defender expressed his delight at making a speedy recovery.

“I feel very good. You know, being out of the team for some weeks and now coming back to training—I feel very, very good, and I’m happy about that,” he told the club’s media.

“I’m not feeling any pain in the hamstring anymore, so it’s a good one. I thank God for recovering so quickly. I can say all glory to God Almighty.”

Imama Amapakabo’s side will host Bendel Insurance in a matchday 29 fixture this weekend.

Njoku is optimistic that they will claim maximum points from the game.

“Bendel Insurance have improved lately, and we got maximum points at their home in Benin in the first round. I know they will come with everything to try and get a point here in Umuahia, but as I always say, no two games are the same,” he added.

“I believe we are going to return to winning ways, using the Bendel Insurance game on Sunday as the key start to our comeback.”
