Rangers maintained top spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, following a 0-0 draw against Sporting Lagos.

The Flying Antelopes top the standings with 61 points from 34 matches.

Enyimba rallied to beat Rivers United 4-1 in a thrilling contest in Aba.

Former Remo Stars forward Andy Okpe gave Rivers United the lead in the 14th minute.

Chijioke Mbaoma and Elijah Akanni scored a brace each to hand Enyimba maximum points in the game.

Enyimba maintained second position on the table following the win.

Sunshine Stars eased their relegation worries following a 2-0 away win against Gombe United.

Promise Awosanmi and Lucky Nwafor were the goal scorers for the visitors in the game.

Gombe United were relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL) following the defeat, while Sporting Lagos must win their remaining matches and pray their relegation-threatened colleagues lose to enable them to have realistic hope of staying in the top division after just one season. The Lagos State-based club was promoted last season.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars technical adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede has reflected on his team’s victory over Kano Pillars.

The Ikenne club defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 at the Remo Stars Stadium on Saturday.

Ogunmodede said he never expected the outcome of the game.

The young tactician admitted that his team was poor in the game but commended their resilience.

“It was an unbelievable, an incredible result for the team,” he told the club’s media.

“I never thought we could get the maximum three points considering what happened in the game.

“We had a not-too-good game, but we must salute the courage of the players for their resilience to keep fighting till the end we had a very poor game.”
