NPFL Round-Up: Enyimba suffer shock home defeat as 3SC beat champions Rivers United

The penultimate games in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL 2021/22 season were played on Sunday across different venues.

A draw, seven home and two away victories with a total of 27 goals were recorded in the 10 games played.

The weekend's biggest upset was recorded in Aba where relegation threatened Dakkada secured a shock 2-0 win over Enyimba International.

Second half goals from Aris Ogundare and Ezekiel Edidiong saw Enyimba slumping to its second home defeat this season which effectively knocks them out from continental football next season.

As it stands, Dakkada are in the 17th position with 46 points while Enyimba with 52 points are in the sixth position

In Ilorin, Kwara United continued their charge for a continental ticket with the 3-0 hammering of already relegated MFM FC.

Junior Lokosa, Issa Gata and Samad Kadiri all scored for the Afonja Warriors in the first and second half of Sunday's encounter. 

With the victory recorded, Kwara United stay in the fourth position with 58 points while the already relegated MFM are rooted in the 20th position.

At the Pantami Stadium, Gombe continued its unbeaten run with a lone goal victory over Rangers.

Ibrahim Yahaha scored the lone goal of the encounter in the 47th minute.


In Ibadan, Shooting Stars emerged 3-2 winners in the five-goal thriller against new champions Rivers United.

Playing behind closed doors,  Lucky Emmanuel put the Oluyole Warriors in front from a close range effort in the 21st minute.

Four minutes later, Opeyemi Olufemi doubled the lead for the Warriors from another close range ball position.

Having conceded two goals, Rivers United pulled one back before the end of the first half through Chijioke Akuneto.

Moses Omoduemuke with another goal for 3SC in the 41st minute restored their two-goal going into the break.

Barely four minutes into the second half, Rivers United got another goal from  Akuneto as the striker registered his 17th goal of the ongoing campaign.


Away points

In Akure, Remo Stars boosted their chance for a Continental slot as they beat Sunshine Stars by  a lone goal in another Southwestern derby.

The Blue Sky Stars with the crucial away win stay in the third position ahead of their final league game in Ikenne next weekend.

Ekundayo Ojo scored the lone goal as Remo Stars picked its third away victory.

The only draw for the matchday was between Akwa United and Abia Warriors as the two sides settled for a 2-2 draw in Uyo.

It was Abia Warriors' fourth draw in the League as they tiptoed relegation spot with a point above Dakkada.

Nabe Akpesiri and Wisdom Fernando scored first half goals for Akwa United.

 On their part, goals from Godwin Obaje and Micheal Ibe in the 22nd and 77th respectively earned Abia Warriors a vital point away from home.
