NPFL: Odegbami cautions Ahmed Musa against returns as Sunshine eyes win against Abia Warriors

Football legend Segun Odegbami has warned former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa against his plans to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

Odegbami believed that Musa’s decision was a ploy to return to the national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Musa recently hinted at the possibility of returning to play in the NPFL.

The 31-year-old previously had two stints with Kano Pillars in the Nigerian top flight.

“It is in the news now that, six months after departing the national team and not securing a contract abroad, Musa will be rejoining his former team, Kano Pillars FC, this season,” said Odegbami according to a report from Daily Post.

“He intends to leverage that ‘project’ to play his way back into the Super Eagles for the 2025 Afcon in Morocco.

“Most before him did not take that path. Few players in Nigeria’s football history have returned to the NPFL to end their careers, and probably none succeeded in leaving a mark.

“This is also wishing him the very best of luck in this ambitious new adventure.”

Elsewhere, Sunshine Stars Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye says his side must grab the maximum points against Abia Warriors in a Matchday three encounter of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League.

The two-time NPFL winner stressed that Sunshine Stars must defeat Abia Warriors to show their readiness for the championship.

“Any team that wants to win the league must maintain a good position on the log to show their readiness for the title and that is the more reason we must win the encounter against Abia Warriors.

“Since our game plan against Remo Stars did not work out, we will approach our match against Abia Warriors with more seriousness and ensure we come out victorious. We can’t say we want to win the league and be struggling in sixth or seventh position, we must always be among the first three on the table,” he said.

Abia Warriors are two points adrift of Sunshine Stars after two matches.
