NPFL: Nigerian player signs N9 m per month three-year contract to play in the Tanzanian league

With the quality of the Nigerian league perpetually at an abysmal level, Nigerian football players are to play in any lucrative league irrespective of destination.
Hitherto, Europe was the preferred destination now any part of the world will do and some African countries especially Tanzania are not choice destinations for our footballers.
Over the weekend, Tanzanian giants Simba SC announced the signing of Augustine Okejepha from Nigeria Premier Football League side, Rivers United.
Okejepha signed a three-year contract with the East African side.
The 20-year-old midfielder was unveiled on the club’s social media.
Okejepha will receive N9 million as his monthly salary at the former Tanzanian champions.
Meanwhile, Rivers United are expected to receive $250,000 as a transfer fee.
Okejepha made 26 appearances for Rivers United last season.
Elsewhere, Rivers United are leading the race to sign Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie.
According to reports, Remo Stars, Enyimba, and Plateau United are also showing interest in the shot-stopper.
Rivers United's head coach, Finidi George is reported to be in direct contact with the goalkeeper.
The Pride of Rivers are in the market for a new goalkeeper following Victor Sochima’s departure from the club.
Obasogie won the Golden Glove Award with 18 clean sheets in the NPFL last season.
It was the most clean sheet by a goalkeeper in a single season in the history of the NPFL.
Obasogie has been Bendel Insurance first first-choice goalkeeper for the past three seasons.
Rivers United are rebuilding their team following a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.
The Pride of Rivers finished in eighth place last season.
