NPFL matchday 6: Gombe United halts Bendel Insurance's perfect runs

Gombe United held Bendel Insurance to a goalless draw on Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City in the week six fixture of the Nigeria Premier League Football, NPFL, halting the Benin Arsenal's perfect start to the season.

This was against all expectations as Bendel Insurance have all their games before the games and they are expected to make it a perfect six but they met a resolute Gombe United side who threw a spanner in their works and left Benin with a point.

Though not the result the fans of the club want, it keeps the group A leaders in the driving seat with sixteen points from six games irrespective of what happens on Sunday in the remaining four games to be played in the group. The 


Insurance pipped El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri 1-0 on Wednesday to Amass 15 points and the Benin Arsenals will be on the road to Ibadan on Sunday to engage in a week 7 battle with Shooting Stars FC.

Insurance will also be having two home games before the end of the first stanza of the current football season. They are expected to host Nasarawa Utd and Enyimba FC of Aba in week eight and nine fixtures.

The Benin Arsenals have been outstanding in their performances since the beginning of the season with a 2-0 away victory in Uyo against Akwa Ua td, a 2-1 victory against Plateau Utd in Benin a and a 1-0 win over Kwara Utd, and a 3-0 win over highly rated Remo Stars in Benin in week four before going to Maiduguri to pip El-Kanemi Warriors in week five engagement on Wednesday.

The week six game kicked off in Benin with both teams wearing a back armband and a minute of silence was observed in honor of the late Referee Dr. Kingsley Eneogwe who died in an accident on his way back home after officiating in the game between Nasarawa United Vs Plateau United on Wednesday.
