Collins Nwoburuoke scored the decisive goal in the second minute.
Former champions Akwa United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Niger Tornadoes at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, with Bashir Usman scoring the only goal of the game in the 25th minute from time.

Ogunbote said it was unfortunate that his team failed to secure a point in the game.
“In the game, at worst, we deserved a point but unfortunately, it came the other way round,” he stated in a post-match interview.
“We are a little bit careless with the penalty but we take the positives from the game and move on.”
Shooting Stars currently occupy the third position on the table.
