NPFL: Kwara vows to rebuild for 2024/25 season as Remo Coach takes responsibility for failure to win title

Kwara United has expressed its readiness to strive hard to compete for a continental ticket next season.
The Harmony Boys last played on the continent in 2022.
The club’s general manager, Bashir Badawiy, said this in a statement after their final game of the 2023–24 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign.
Badawiy said the Harmony Boys will work hard to make it a reality.
“We want to first appreciate His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman who is our number one fan. We thank him for his support all the time and we want to promise that Kwara United will make everyone happy next season,” the statement reads.
“We equally want to thank all the stakeholders, fans, and all Kwarans, home and abroad, for their support and trust in the team from the beginning of the season to the end.
“Thank you, everyone, for your love. By the grace of Almighty Allah, next season will be a better one for Kwara United.”
Kwara United finished 13th on the NPFL table with 51 points.
Elsewhere, Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has accepted full responsibility for the club’s failure to win the NPFL title.
The Ikenne club finished in second position for the second consecutive season, with Rangers claiming the title.
The previous season they lost out to Enyimba in the title race.
Remo Stars will now make their second appearance in the CAF Champions League next season.
Ogunmodede claimed the target was for the club to win their maiden NPFL title this season and expressed disappointment they were unable to achieve the objective.
“For my target, I term it as a failure for me because the target from the beginning of the season was clear—it was to be one step ahead of what we were last season.
“We were second last season, and we wanted to be first this season, but unfortunately, we slipped and finished second,” Ogunmodede said via the club’s X account.
“Last season (2022/23) was an abridged league, and this (2023/24) was a marathon, so it’s different lessons from different formats. We just need to accept our fate.
“I accept responsibility as the coach, and that is why I congratulated the players.
“We want to be better, always; that’s what we want to do.”
And Rivers United have praised their players and officials for the dedication and tireless efforts they exhibited during the just concluded 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The general manager of the club, Okey Kpalukwu expressed gratitude to the team during a ceremony at the club House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Kpalukwu commended the players for their achievement in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Meanwhile Rivers United also announced a week-long break.
The players are expected to return on Wednesday, July 3rd in preparation for the new NPFL season.
Rivers United made it to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup and finished in eight.
