NPFL: Gov Wike shocks Rivers United players, officials with dollars, Madrid training tour
Apart from the dollars, Gov. Wike also promised the team a trip to Madrid, Spain for pre-season training;
Players and officials of Rivers United have received handsome rewards from the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for their heroic title-winning feat in the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season.
At a colourful reception organised Thursday in Port Harcourt, Gov. Wike ensured the players and officials will be smiling to the bank when he announced they would receive $20,000 each for their outstanding performance in the league this season.
Apart from the Dollars, Gov. Wike also promised the team a trip to Madrid, Spain for pre-season training; adding the cash reward would be doubled if Stanley Eguma's men qualify from the group stage of the Champions League.

The icing on the cake for the Rivers United team on Thursday was the Governors Medal Service Award (GMSA), given to everyone for making the state proud in the country’s elite football division.
Rivers United who emerged the winners of the 2021/2022 NPFL season with 77 points in 38 games along with Plateau United will be representing Nigeria in the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League season.
