NPFL: Finidi and Amunike set to be unveiled as managers of Rivers United and Heartland
Nigeria football icon Finidi George will be unveiled as the new head coach of Rivers United on Thursday.
According to Daily Post, the 54-year-old will take over the reign at the former Nigeria Premier Football League champions following Stanley Eguma’s sacking towards the end of last season.
The unveiling ceremony will be held at Rivers United’s secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Finidi is returning to the dugout a few weeks after quitting his position as Super Eagles head coach.
The former Ajax winger managed nine-time NPFL champions, Enyimba for three years before moving up to coach the Super Eagles.
Finidi masterminded Enyimba’s title success in the 2022/23 season.
Rivers United finished in a disappointing eighth position in the NPFL last term.
Elsewhere another Super Eagles legend, Emmanuel Amuneke has been linked with Heartland’s coaching job.
Heartland was relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League last season.
The Naze Millionaires are, however, reportedly hoping to take the Beyond Limits slot in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Beyond Limits, which is an academy of NPFL clubs, Remo Stars gained promotion to the top flight from the Nigeria National League (NNL) last season.
There are reports that the owner of the club, Kunle Soname, is willing to sell the slot to another club.
Amuneke will take charge at Heartland if they succeed in buying the slot.
The former Barcelona player has been serving as a consultant to the Owerri club since last season.
