NPFL: Enyimba, 3SC, and Tornadoes all win as Bayelsa United lose at home

Nine-time Nigeria Premier League champions, Enyimba Football Club, remain top of the 2025/26 table at the end of match-day five, after a nervy 3-2 win over traditional rivals Bendel Insurance in Aba on Sunday.

Enyimba came back twice in front of their fans in Aba to edge their visitors, who took the lead as early as the third minute through Chinedu Nwosu.

Former Sunshine Stars winger Abiodun Joseph restored parity for Enyimba in the 18th minute, but the visitors led again in the 60th minute through Wisdom Udom.

Six minutes later, Kalu Nweke levelled matters again for the Aba giants from the spot before Chidera Michael scored the winner in the 70th minute.

The victory ensured Enyimba remained top of the table, thanks to back-to-back wins. As well as Rivers United, the People’s Elephant are yet to taste defeat this season.

In Ibadan, 3SC also bagged their first win of the season, thanks to a 2-1 win over newly-promoted side Kun Khalifat FC.

Right-back Gali Falke opened scoring for the Oluyole Warriors in the seventh minute, while Sodiq Ibrahim doubled their advantage after the restart before Kun Khalifat pulled one back through Henry Ezeonye in the 76th minute.

There was a thriller at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, where Niger Tornadoes beat Ikorodu City 4-2.

Tornadoes raced to a three-goal lead inside 20 minutes courtesy of Ismail Sarki, Abba Khalid and Abdulaziz Dalhatu.

Musa Maliq pulled one back for Ikorodu three minutes after the restart, but Shehu Dabai further put the game beyond them with Tornadoes’ fourth goal in the 65th minute, while Tosin Oyedokun’s 73rd penalty added to the visitors’ consolation.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa United suffered a consecutive home defeat after bowing 2-1 to Nasarawa United. They led through Mustapha Jawad in the 36th minute but were pegged back before halftime by Ekeson Okrorie, while Collins Onovuke nailed them with a late winner.

With several postponed games on match-day five, new boys Barau FC – without a win this season – as well as Plateau United, Kun Khalifat and eight-time champions Rangers International find themselves in the relegation zone.
