NPFL: Amokachi delighted to end Lobi Stars' poor runs

Coach Daniel Amokachi has said he believes Lobi Stars will push forward now after he recorded his first win with the Makurdi club.

On Monday, Lobi Stars outscored Bayelsa United 2-1 in their adopted home of Lafia with a brace by striker Ossy Martins.

In three games, Amokachi lost one and drew two before he finally got the first win.

“First of all, we give God the glory, it has been a difficult two weeks of football, I only trained three sessions and they played three matches in those weeks,” ‘Dabull’ said after the match.

“It’s a work in progress, but the most important thing is getting the three points at home, and then that will build the players' confidence going forward.”

However, despite this victory, Lobi Stars still languish in the relegation zone with nine points from as many games.

Ossy Martins scored both goals for the Makurdi club.

Martins has now registered five goals for Lobi Stars this season.

Ibrahim Mustapha scored Bayelsa United’s only goal of the game.

In Ilorin, Kwara United were held to a 1-1 draw by holders Rangers.

Abdulraheem Shola gave Kwara United the lead in the 42nd minute, while Kingsley Maduforo equalised for Rangers three minutes later.

Meanwhile, Plateau United technical adviser Mbwas Mangut has insisted that his team still need to improve despite their victory over Sunshine Stars.

The Peace Boys beat Sunshine Stars 3-0 in Sunday’s matchday nine fixture at the New Jos Stadium.

Adamu Abubakar netted a brace, while Vincent Temitope scored the other goal for Plateau United.

Mangut commended his players for the victory but confessed they still have more work to do.

“We really worked hard and the team responded but for me, we still have no comfort on the ball,” Mbwas told Plateau United’s media.

“We are still struggling with circulating the ball. I’m happy with the points and the second-half performance of the team.”

Plateau United are fourth on the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 14 points.
