Nottingham Forest will listen to offers for Taiwo Awoniyi
Nottingham Forest are willing to listen to offers from suitors of Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi.
Awoniyi’s future is in the spotlight ahead of the transfer window opening next Friday. He has caught the eye of West Ham United, and it seems the Reds have their eye on a potential replacement should the Nigeria international depart.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest are prepared to “listen to offers” for Awoniyi. And if they let him go, a move for Ben Brereton-Diaz would be considered.
Brereton-Diaz left the City Ground for Blackburn Rovers in a £7 million deal in January 2019, having initially made the loan move. He featured 57 times for the Reds and scored nine goals.
He left Ewood Park as a free agent last summer and put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Villarreal. A matter of months after his switch to Spain, he then joined Sheffield United on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
The 25-year-old netted six goals in 16 appearances for the Blades but was not able to prevent the club from being relegated. One of his strikes came against his former side as he opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Forest went on to secure a crucial 3-1 win at Bramall Lane last month.
Awoniyi came off the bench that day as he made his return from a spell on the sidelines. Injuries have hampered the frontman during his two years at Trentside, but he has still weighed in with plenty of vital goals.
Before the Reds secured safety, Awoniyi was asked about his future at the club. He has three years left on his contract but appeared to hint at the possibility of a move.
He said: “That’s a tough one, for me I am still under contract at Nottingham Forest, for sure I am here. For now, I am a player of Nottingham Forest.”
