NLO: Smart City Football Club Of Lagos picks NNL ticket, smash Trade Safe FC in playoff

Smart City Football Club of Lagos defeated Trade Safe FC by 2-0 to pick Nigeria National League, NNL ticket on Saturday in Ikenne as the Nationwide League One, NLO wrapped up the 2021/2022 season with promotional playoffs.

It was a total joy and wild celebration for Smart City FC on Saturday, as they picked one of the tickets for the NNL spot next season. 

Smart City Football Club of Lagos booked the ticket by thrashing, hard-fighting Trade Safe FC 2-0 at the magnificent Remo Stars FC Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun state. 

The game, which was heavily contested, saw the Smart City Football Club of Lagos smiling home with victory at the expense of Trade Safe FC.

The first half which ended goalless saw the City boys missing some very glaring chances. 

The Gafari Mohammed, tortured side, come out courageous in the second half because they knew what is at stake. 
 
The introduction of young lads, like Kelvin Osas, Fuad Ibrahim and Rasheed Eyitayo, did the image for the city, as their pace and skills were too much for the aged Trade Safe FC defenders to handle. 

Super sub, Fuad Fuad Ibrahim, nodded home the first goal from a corner, while, midfield sensation Adeyemi Adetola, slotted home the second goal, with an as the ist, from the big striker, Kelvin Osas.

Speaking after the game, Smart City FC Chairman, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, said it's a dream come true for this young club and that, they will continue to put in their best to make sure they get to the highest level. 

"I am so overwhelmed with joy because my boys made me proud with this victory. I have always believed in these young players, and I thank everyone, the coaching crew, the management and the supporters for this huge victory. 

"We will continue to do our best to make sure we achieve more success in the coming season," he said. 

Meanwhile, the coach of the team,  Gafari Mohammed, told the newsmen, that, "It was a long road, but, I thank God, we reached the promised land". 

"I told my boys, it was a marathon and you don't stop when you are tired, you stop when you are done, and that sunk into their minds and I thank God, we picked the ticket for the NNL," said the coach. 

The smart city will participate in the NNL next season and will be fighting for a spot in NPFL.
