Nike beat Adidas, Puma to Haaland signature  for $24m

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has resigned with Nike in a deal that is expected to keep him with the sportswear giant for the majority of his career.

Haaland had previously been signed with Nike but after his previous deal elapsed in January 2022 he had been seen wearing boots produced by other manufacturers.

The 22-year-old’s global reach exploded last summer when he signed for Premier League champions Manchester City. Since his switch to the Etihad, Haaland has recorded an incredible rate of scoring that made him the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the Champions League.

Haaland will join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Kevin De Bruyne in Nike’s roster of elite footballing talent.

His prodigious talent and high-profile move to the Premier League catapulted Haaland into the stratosphere of the most coveted sports stars. Unsurprisingly, Adidas and Puma had been vying to replace Nike as Haaland’s sportswear sponsor.

Last month The Athletic reported that Haaland’s team were expecting to strike a deal worth $24 million per year. The Norwegian striker has had ties to Nike since the age of 14.

The deal was announced with a video posted on Nike’s social media accounts, with the tagline: “A new era of #9. Erling Haaland is a Force of Nature.”
