The Elective Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation has been fixed to hold on September 30 in Benin City, Edo State.

The modalities for the election which will usher in new NFF executives were top on the agenda at Thursday's Annual General Assembly held in Lagos.

Thursday’s event held at the Best Western Plus Hotel, Victoria Island had in attendance the Chairmen and Secretaries of the 44 Members of the NFF (Football Associations of all the 36 States and the FCT; the Leagues; Coaches Association; Referees Association and; the Players’ Union); Members of the NFF Executive Committee; invited dignitaries; NFF Management and Staff and; a number of other stakeholders.

It was gathered there were initial moves by the present board led by Amaju Pinnick to have the elections slightly delayed to October but it was rejected by the majority of the Congressmen who stuck their gun to have the election conducted on September 30, 2022

Already Pinnick who initially claimed he is under pressure to contest again has pulled out of the race for next month's election and he has instead promised to support whosoever emerges as his successor.

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, he said: “Third term, no, no. Am fine and am telling you that as there are so many Nigerians that are capable to run Nigerian football.

“I will assist and work with whoever emerges as the new Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President and that’s my promise. I’ll intervene but never interfere,”

Mr Pinnick, who has been in office since 2014, is the first Nigerian to hold the position of the NFF president for two terms.

His second term is billed to expire on 20 September 2022.
