NFF dismisses rumours of FIFA verdict on Nigeria-DRC dispute
Contrary to online speculation, NFF officials have confirmed that FIFA has not yet issued any ruling on the matter
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that FIFA has issued any verdict regarding Nigeria’s protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The dispute stems from Nigeria’s elimination on penalties by the Leopards in the final round of the African play-offs last November.
Following the match, the NFF filed a complaint questioning the eligibility of certain DRC players, citing concerns over dual nationality and the legality of their switch to represent the Leopards.
Contrary to online speculation, NFF officials have confirmed that FIFA has not yet issued any ruling on the matter. NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, said the federation has been closely following developments and that any reports suggesting a verdict either in favour of Nigeria or the DRC are inaccurate.
“There is no decision from FIFA at this time. Any claims that a ruling has been made are false. FIFA has not communicated any verdict to the NFF or the Congolese federation,” Olajire stated.
The clarification appears aimed at addressing confusion and speculation online, where unverified reports have circulated suggesting Nigeria might be reinstated or that the DRC could face sanctions.
For now, the matter remains under review by FIFA, and both federations are awaiting official communication from the world governing body. The NFF has reiterated its commitment to following due process and will issue updates only when formal correspondence is received.
Until then, all claims of a FIFA verdict are unfounded, and the pathway for Nigeria and the DRC in the intercontinental play-offs remains unchanged.
