Luton Town became the first club to go from the top flight to non-League and back again when they won a penalty shoot-out against Coventry City on an evening of high drama at Wembley on Saturday.

Luton's feat was made possible with the contributions of three players of Nigerian descent.

They are Gabriel Osho who played for 112 minutes before Potts came on for him in the extra time. Fred Onyedinma who came on for Doughty in the 85th minutes and Elijah Adebayo who played for 105 minutes before Taylor came on for him.

Born to Nigerian parents in Brent, England 25 years ago Adebayo whose full name is Elijah Anuoluwapo Oluwaferanmi Oluwatomi Oluwalana Ayomikulehin Adebayo plays as a forward for Luton.

Adebayo joined Fulham at under-9 level, and spent loan spells with Slough Town and Bognor Regis Town. He moved on loan to Cheltenham Town in January 2018.

In July 2018, Adebayo joined League Two side Swindon Town on a season-long loan and moved on loan to Stevenage the following year.He was released by Fulham at the end of the 2018–19 season.Following his release he signed for Walsall in June 2019.

In 2021, Adebayo signed for Championship side Luton for an undisclosed fee. He scored on his first start in a 1–1 draw against Millwall.

Unlike Adebayo Wilfred Oluwafemi Onyedinma was born in Lagos, Nigeria 26 years ago. His parents moved the family to England, along with his brother and two sisters, when he was aged three.

He grew up in Greenwich, Plumstead and Woolwich and attended Corelli College in Kidbrooke. He played local football representing Blackheath district as a youngster alongside Alex Iwobi, Joe Gomez and Kasey Palmer, before he was spotted by Millwall scout and former player Andy Massey, and subsequently signed for the club at the age of twelve.

Onyedinma made his senior debut for Millwall on 4 January 2014 in the FA Cup against Southend United. He came on as a 62nd-minute substitute for Richard Chaplow as Millwall lost 4–1. He later made his full debut against Charlton Athletic and was named Man of the Match.

In 2014, Onyedinma joined League Two side, Wycombe Wanderers on a loan deal, lasting until January 2015.

Onyedinma signed for Luton Town for an undisclosed fee on 25 May 2021. He scored and assisted a further two goals on his debut for the club, a 3–0 victory over Peterborough .

The youngest of the trio Osho was born in Reading in 1998.In Osho signed his first professional deal with Reading,in 2015.  He became the 49th graduate from Reading Academy when he made his debut in a 0–1 defeat to Middlesbrough in December 2018 earning man of the match.

In 2019, Osho joined Bristol Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

In 2020, Osho joined then EFL Championship side Luton Town on a permanent dea.
