Renowned UFC commentator Joe Rogan has warned Conor McGregor to 'be careful what you ask for' amid the former two-weight UFC champion's desire to fight Kamaru Usman.

McGregor has been out of action since suffering a gruesome leg break during his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier last July, spending the last eight months recovering from the injury.

The Irishman is planning to make a comeback this summer, nevertheless, and has set his sights on a potential showdown with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

But Rogan believes he should think wisely about taking on the 170lbs chief, who he describes as being 'top of the food chain' right now.

'Now he's talking about fighting Kamaru Usman. Be careful what you ask for,' the UFC commentator said about McGregor on his 'Joe Rogan Experience' podcast.

'Be careful what you ask for. Usman is a big man, and he's top of the food chain right now.'

Despite Rogan's warning, McGregor is convinced Usman would pose no threat inside the Octagon, branding him a 'jab happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever'.

'I believe versus Usman for the 170lb title for my comeback is the one I'm eyeballing at the minute,' he said on the Mac Life podcast.

'I haven't really said that to no one to be honest, I've only been thinking that for the last couple of days because for what cut the weight? I've already won the 155lb title, I got myself down to a lightweight frame, but I'm big now.

'I feel big, I feel strong, I feel healthy, and I’ve got good energy. I'm coming back after a gruesome injury. I do not want to deplete myself, there should be no need to deplete myself.

'And I feel confident against Usman. A jab happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What's he going to do? Where's the danger here? I don't see a danger with him.

'His ground-and-pound isn't strong, plus he's on the older side. And then plus the world is to be took again. No one's ever obtained three knockouts in three weight divisions moving up like I have already, but no one's ever obtained three UFC world titles cross three divisions like I will do also if we make this fight.'

Usman, however, is confident he would brush aside the threat of McGregor with relative ease.

He posted on Twitter about the call-out: 'You guys want a murder scene in the octagon'
