Mbappe is Real Madrid Player of the Season, as Vinicius says he is not in a hurry to renew his contract
France captain Kylian Mbappe has officially been named Real Madrid’s Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, securing the prestigious individual accolade for the second consecutive year.
The French striker was recognised by the club following another impressive year in front of goal, reinforcing his status as the premier marksman in world football and the undisputed spearhead of the squad.
Mbappe enjoyed a historic campaign on both domestic and continental fronts, registering an astonishing 42 goals in just 44 matches across all competitions.
Mbappé spearheaded Real Madrid’s attack by finishing as the outright top scorer in La Liga with 25 goals, a feat that comfortably earned him the coveted Pichichi Trophy for the second season in a row.
The 27-year-old ace has also been nominated for the La Liga Player of the Season award for 2025/26 as a result.
His clinical ruthlessness was mirrored on the European stage, where he finished as the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League after netting 15 goals.
Mbappe’s relentless impact throughout the gruelling season was further highlighted by his dominance in the club’s monthly awards.
The superstar striker claimed the Real Madrid Player of the Month award on four separate occasions and has now been named the Player of the Season.
Despite his exceptional numbers, Mbappe’s form dipped in the second half of the season, with injuries and problems in the dressing room bogging him down.
As a result, the Frenchman is yet to win his first major trophy with Los Blancos, something that he will be eager to set right in the next season.
Elsewhere, Vinicius has spoken about his future at Real Madrid in an interview on @CazeTVOficial. And the Brazilian player says he is calm at the club. “I’m not in a hurry to renew my contract. I have until 2027. So until 2027, we have a lot to discuss with Madrid, and Madrid has a lot to discuss with us,” he said.
Furthermore, he acknowledged that everything is in order with Florentino Pérez. “Madrid is calm, I am calm. The president trusts me, and I trust him. And that’s all, we just have to wait and live each day, each moment, and enjoy the best club in the world,” he said.
Vinicius also highlighted how happy he is at the white team and the importance he gives to wearing the armband: "I have never imagined myself outside Real Madrid. I really enjoy every moment I spend here, because it is the club of my dreams. I always dreamed of playing here and being able to do so for so long. Now I am one of the team's captains. Despite being so young, it is something important that happens very few times in history. So I enjoy every moment. I want to stay here my whole life, but I am not in a hurry to renew my contract".
'Regarding the Real Madrid season, the second consecutive one without winning a title, he commented: "We opened up a seven-point lead at the start of the championship, but it is long, and Barcelona know very well how to play the competition. We ended up slipping up in matches we cannot slip up in. Losing matches at home... You lose those points, and the gap increases, and the other team gains confidence while you lose it. They are different years, and we hope that next season will be better than the previous two. These are my first two seasons in which I have no titles. Whenever I played for Real Madrid, I won a title every season. We have to come back and be champions. Real Madrid always returns to the top.'
Vinicius, on the other hand, was clear about the relationship he has with Mbappé and assured that they get along well both on and off the pitch: “Whenever we can, we are together, also off the field doing things as friends. I have always had a good relationship with him. I used to send him lots of messages so that he would come play with us. We have not been able to play as we want, win the titles that the fans want, but I believe that in the very near future, we will be able to turn that situation around. Mbappé is a good person; he always defends me in interviews and also in the match against Benfica regarding the racism incident. He is a legendary player who is going to define an era at Madrid”.
