A section of Manchester City's support launched into a chant at the expense of former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after beating his Aston Villa side to win the Premier League title.

The former England midfielder was part of the Liverpool side denied by City in the 2013-14 title race, famously slipping in a defeat against Chelsea which handed the advantage to the Manchester club.

However, with 20 minutes left on the clock on Sunday, it looked as though he - and former Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho - might get their long-awaited revenge.

After Matty Cash's header saw Villa go into the break 1-0 up, Coutinho doubled their advantage. It wasn't to be, though, with Ilkay Gundogan scoring twice - once each side of a Rodri finish - to give Pep Guardiola's side the title.

Adopting the tune of a chant Liverpool fans used for Gerrard in his playing days, the song sung by City fans is less complimentary. It references the former midfielder slipping and gifting the ball to Demba Ba in what ended up being a devastating 2-0 defeat for Brendan Rodgers' Reds in 2014.

Some were none too pleased with the antics, with one calling it "tragic," though there were some who came out in support. However, actor and Liverpool fan Rahul Kohli was among those to take the positives rather than dwelling on the Reds' disappointment.
