Luton Town striker Adebayo says racism in EPL is suffocating him

Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo is "tired" of the racist abuse aimed at him after suffering it again following his side's defeat by Tottenham.

The Hatters were beaten 1-0 by Spurs on Saturday during a weekend of matches to highlight the Premier League's No Room For Racism campaign.

The club has reported the post to Bedfordshire Police, the Premier League, and Instagram's parent company, Meta.

"We have spoken to Elijah to offer him our support," said a Luton statement.

"But do you know what the sad thing is? He said it's happened so many times now that he can't be bothered to report or respond to discrimination anymore. He's tired of it."

Players at all 10 Premier League games last weekend took the knee to show unity against all forms of discrimination and they will also do so for the next round of top-flight matches.

Adebayo, speaking to BBC Look East in October 2022, said racist abuse must be punished after he was on the receiving end for the third time in 12 months.

Following the latest incident, Luton added: "We are now treating this as abuse against the club.

"We have had enough of saying enough is enough.

"So we will continue to fight against this heinous, obnoxious, narrow-minded, and bigoted behaviour.

"We will, of course, always stand up for anyone at Luton Town who suffers at the hands of such backward and utterly deplorable attitudes.

"We will continue to do our bit. For everyone."
