Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku accepts he made a mistake in leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea.

The striker, 29, has returned to Inter on loan after completing a £97.5million transfer to Chelsea last summer.

Lukaku is delighted to be back at Inter and believes the future is bright for the Serie A giants.

He also admitted he kept his apartment in Milan because he knew he wanted to return one day - as he revealed in a notorious interview last December.

Lukaku spoke about his return to Inter at a recent kit launch, saying: "I left. It was a mistake.

"Now I am happy to be wearing this jersey, the team knows what we need to do, it’ll be a great challenge this season and we need to continue like this.

"I realised last season when I was in England, just how important Inter are in the world.

"The club’s profile is improving on an international scale, the social media approach is really important too and you can see how we act in the locker room, in training, our hugs and jokes.

"Milan is a wonderful city and that is why I kept the old apartment when I went to London, because my mother was coming here all the time and I wanted to return too."

Lukaku has picked up where he left off in Italy with a goal in Inter's 10-0 win over FC Milanese.

Lukaku is only on loan at Inter but he could stick around for longer according to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

The German said of Lukaku's future: "Given the fact he's just on loan, of course there's a chance [he could return].

"I don't know if it's very likely, but it's not on me to give an outlook on that. There is a chance for it."
