Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has issued a grovelling apology to Chelsea fans and has vowed to restore trust after saying he was 'not happy’ at Stamford Bridge.

The Mail Online also reports that the striker will likely be fined at least £325,000 by the club.

Lukaku previously said he was not happy at Chelsea and that he would return to Inter-Milan.

Chelsea have now posted a video message of Lukaku apologizing to supporters.

In the video, he vowed to restore the trust of fans with his on-field performances

The £97.5million summer signing will be fined at least a week's wages for giving an interview to Sky Sports Italia in which he confessed to being unhappy under Tuchel.

Lukaku is understood to earn in the region of £325,000-per-week before bonuses.

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday how Lukaku was being pressed into apologizing for the episode that has engulfed the club over the past week.

And having expressed his regret to head coach Thomas Tuchel during heart-to-heart talks on Monday, the 28-year-old has now said sorry to the club's supporters

'To the fans, I'm sorry for the upset that I caused. You guys know the connection that I have with this club since my teenage years so I totally understand you guys being upset,' said Lukaku.

'Obviously, it's up to me now to restore your trust and I'll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground and trying to make sure we win games.

'To the manager, I apologised and I said it to my teammates and the board because I think it was not the right moment (to do the interview).

'I want to move forward from this and make sure that we start winning football games and I perform for the best team in the best manner.'

Nevertheless, Tuchel has warned Lukaku to brace himself for a fan backlash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Lukaku insisted his Sky Sports Italy interview was only ever designed as a respectful goodbye to Inter fans - but that he now understands the damage caused by his comments.

'I think I should have been much clearer in my message, to be honest,' said Lukaku.

'Because the interview was about saying goodbye to the Inter fans, it was not about trying to disrespect the (Chelsea) fans, the football club, the owner, my teammates, the technical staff.

'Because they made a lot of efforts for me to come back here and I wanted to come back here.

'I was on a mission to come back since I left, so I totally understand the frustrations of the fans.

'But now it's on me to make sure my commitment is at 100 per cent and I will do that in every game.

'My club was Chelsea, everybody knows that from being 10 or 11 years old I said I wanted to play for Chelsea. There were clearly images when I came on my school trip that I said I wanted to play for Chelsea.

'So for me I came here when I was 18 it didn't go so well. Now I'm back at 28 in the prime years of my career - I can't really mess this up.'

Tuchel is now considering whether to hand Lukaku an instant return to the starting XI after dropping him for Sunday's 2-2 draw versus Liverpool amid the fall-out from the interview after confirming he is back in the squad for Wednesday night's Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash versus arch-rivals Tottenham.

But the Chelsea head coach fears Lukaku will be targeted for abuse from sections of supporters who were angered by the 28-year-old's comments last week.

'He is very aware of what happened and what he created. He feels the responsibility to clean the mess up,' said Tuchel.

'Maybe we will have a bit of smell still from it, of course. He can handle it. He has also no other choice. He cannot expect now everybody to be super happy the very next day but he is still our player and we have good reasons and a lot of reasons to make him play for us, to convince him, to fight hard that he is our player.

'We are happy he is our player and we will protect him. In the end, it is also every important that the stadium supports the team. Even if somebody has a different opinion on it or strongly disagrees, it is about the team in anything we do.

'I hope the supporters can take this also and keep on supporting the team because we are in a moment where we really need the support.'

On disciplinary matters, Tuchel confirmed: 'There will be some disciplinary action of course and he will accept it, of course.

'It's not a small thing, it's not the biggest thing out there but something happened and he will be fined and, of course, he needs to accept it.'
