The Executive chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA)  Oladotun Olakanle has indicated interest to be given the hosting right of the closing ceremony/matches of 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship.
The announcement was made known while receiving the delegation from Lagos Street Soccer led by committee chairman Bolaji Yusuf in his office during a courtesy visit.

The visit was in tandem with the committee’s mandate to reach out to critical stakeholders and other personalities and partners for the championship which is set to kick off in October 2023.

In his welcome remarks, . Oladotun said:
“I want to thank and appreciate the Lagos Street Soccer committee for this important visitation. Without much ado, I hereby on behalf of Onigbongbo LCDA bid for the closing ceremony/matches of this year’s edition of Lagos Street Soccer championship.

“We have two football centres within the LCDA that can conveniently host the grand finale. Both are in strategic locations respectively which is good for an event of this magnitude. The facilities are available for inspections and I’ll suggest to the committee to visit there and make recommendations on areas we need to improve upon in order for us to win the right to host the final of the competition.

“As far as Sporting activities are concerned, that’s the only thing at any given time that binds everybody together devoid of tribe, religion and sentiment once the activity is on-going in the society. Lagos Street Soccer championship is an avenue to engage the youths and it’s only natural to support and take an active role during the championship.’

Olakanle assured the committee of his unalloyed support and declared his availability whenever the committee needed it.

Responding to the chairman’s speech, . Bolaji Yusuf applauded Hon. Olakanle for the achievement recorded in sports since his emergence as the LCDA chairman.

“The Lagos Street Soccer championship is back and our mandate is to resuscitate and improve on certain areas as grassroots football showpiece stages a comeback.

“The committee will visit the facilities suggested to us by Hon. Olakanle within Onigbongbo LCDA and after the inspection exercise we’ll draw up a conclusion.”

More than 1,000 Teams are expected to participate in the 2023 edition of the Lagos Street Soccer Championship.
