Nigeria-born former boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been offered coaching by Buddy McGirt... the man who trains his bitter rival Dillian Whyte.

AJ is on the scout for a new training team in America following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

After the first, in September 2021, Joshua parted ways with long-time cornerman Rob McCracken, who led him to gold in the amateurs and pros.

He replaced McCracken with esteemed US mastermind Robert Garcia, but following rematch defeat to Usyk the two have split.

Now Joshua is trailing new coaches and McGirt has thrown his name into the hat.

He told Boxing King Media: “Of course, it would interest me without a doubt.

"It would be great because I just think that with him, the adjustments that he needs are nothing major."

Whyte, 34, linked up with McGirt before his last fight, a disputed majority decision win over Jermaine Franklin, 29.

Joshua, 33, was ringside for it and the pair of old rivals fist-bumped ahead of a proposed rematch next year.

Whyte beat AJ in their 2009 barnburner in the amateurs but lost in the professional ranks six years later.

Joshua is yet to announce his new team ahead of his scheduled return in the spring, but McGirt did admit there could be a conflict of interest.

He said: “If anyone tries any major adjustments for him, it’s not going to work, and I think a lot of people are overlooking that.

"On the second hand, I’d only do it if he’s not fighting Dillian. If he’s fighting Dillian, I’ve got to stay with Dillian, of course, because I was with Dillian first.

“If he’s not fighting Dillian, yes, of course, I would love that."
