It’s Coco Gauff versus Iga Swiatek in WTA Finals match

Tennis star Coco Gauff has spoken extremely highly of Iga Swiatek ahead of their WTA Finals match, declaring the Pole "one of the best players of our generation" and also highlighting that she learns something new whenever she plays against the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Gauff, 19, and 22-year-old Swiatek have already played against each other nine times. On Wednesday, they will be meeting for the 10th time as Swiatek owns an 8-1 head-to-head against Gauff. Gauff clinched her first win over Swiatek in Cincinnati but the Pole won their last meeting in Beijing a couple of weeks ago. “She’s a tough player for anyone to play, but especially with my game.

I found a little bit of it in Cincinnati. In Beijing, it was tough for me. I was dealing with a little bit of an injury there. She’s a tough player and she’s definitely one of the best players in our generation. I think for me, the more I can play against her, the more I can get better.

After each time I play her I do learn and get better whether it’s a win or a loss. Hopefully this time I’d love to get a win on our head-to-head. At this rate, we’ll probably have the most matches ever at the end of our careers," Gauff said of her rivalry with Swiatek.

After the first seven meetings, Swiatek had as many straight-set wins over Gauff. But in August, Gauff finally managed to get a win over Swiatek when she beat the Pole 7-6 (2) 3-6 6-4 in the Cincinnati semifinal.

After beating Swiatek, Gauff went on to win her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati. In early October, Gauff and Swiatek met again in Beijing, where this time the Pole claimed a 6-2 6-3 win. Now, Gauff and Swiatek are set to meet in Cancun. If Gauff manages to beat Swiatek, she will improve to 2-0 in her group and seal a semifinal ticket at the WTA Final Elite Running's Front Page.
