High wage demand is the snag between Adarabioyo and summer move to Newcastle or Chelsea
The process of Newcastle United and Manchester United target Tosin Adarabioyo joining a new club is being slowed down by financial factors, according to the Sun.
Adarabioyo has rejected the offer of a new contract at Fulham and is set to join another side when his current deal expires at the end of June.
Newcastle have put an offer to the centre-back as they seek to land him, while Manchester United are another potential destination.
Chelsea have been offered the defender, but financial issues explain why the move is dragging on.
Adarabioyo’s high wage demands, combined with agent fees, are playing their part in slowing down the process of a club signing him.
The defender can move as a free agent and as a result, will be looking for a lucrative wage package.
Newcastle’s offer to Adarabioyo has been dubbed ‘huge’ but it has not done the trick yet.
The 26-year-old has time to arrange his next side, with pre-season still well over a month away.
According to Fabrizio Romano, everything is open at the moment, but Newcastle are said to be favourites to sign the centre-back this summer.
“First of all, it’s an open situation. I still see Newcastle as favourites because Newcastle started to work on this deal in March. For Tosin, there is still discussions ongoing but I see Newcastle as favourites.
“Interest from Chelsea has been there since the final week of March, Chelsea are well informed on Tosin.
“I’m not aware of anything advanced with Chelsea. I’m not sure anything is decided with Chelsea, I think the situation is still quite open with Newcastle pushing to make it happen.”
Newcastle are said to be favourites to sign Tosin, but a move to Chelsea may make more sense for the defender.
The centre-back already lives in west London having spent the past few years playing for Fulham, while he will suit Enzo Maresca’s style of play very well after being schooled by Pep Guardiola during his youth days at Manchester City.

Newcastle’s project may be more exciting than Chelsea’s, but from a personal point of view, it may make sense for Tosin to head to Stamford Bridge instead of St James’ Park.
However, Tosin has been warned 'to be careful' when it comes to picking his next club, with a belief that a move to Newcastle would offer near certain guarantees of first-team football that a move to Chelsea could not.
Simon Bird explained his theory behind Chelsea's late entry in the race for Adarabioyo.
"If Chelsea and Man United are in for him, then he's going to be getting more money out of Newcastle if he comes here than he would have done but I think he needs to be careful making his choices.
"Why does Chelsea need him? They've got an enormous squad and they've got young centre-backs - they want him because he's an asset and he's free and as soon as they put him on the books he's worth, he's worth £20-30 million, right?
"So Chelsea are signing him like a hedge fund manager, they want this asset for free, not necessarily to fit in the squad because they love him and they want to coach him and make him better.
"Now he's got to look at that and think, 'Well, what's my career better off doing?' Is it better off go to Chelsea where I don't even know if I'm going to play and I'm just treated as a massive lump of cash? Or come to Newcastle and improve yourself and have a great platform to be to play in front of the crowd and distinguish yourself?
"Man United are a different matter - that's like a huge club. They might be able to pay more, but they who's the manager? He doesn't know who the manager is, and the director of football is not even in there yet, in Dan Ashworth. So he's got to make a careful choice - I think Newcastle is possibly the best choice for him."
