Ghana vs Nigeria: Super Eagles suffer big blow as Ndidi cups knee injury
Ndidi, a key member of the Nigeria national team has sustained a medial ligament injury and may be ruled out of the double-header in Kumasi and Abuja.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been dealt a big blow ahead of their all-important World Cup qualifying clashes against Ghana.
Wilfred Ndidi, a key member of the Nigeria national team has sustained a medial ligament injury and may be ruled out of the double-header in Kumasi and Abuja.
The Super Eagles will face the Black Stars in a week’s time at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi before hosting the Ghanaians four days later at the MKO Stadium, Abuja.
Ndidi limped off in the 60th minute of Leicester’s 2-1 loss at Rennes but the Foxes coach, Brendan Rodgers revealed that the midfielder may have damaged his ligament.
“Ndidi has a blocked tackle, so it is his medial ligament and his knee, so we will see how that is,” Rodgers told BT Sports on the 25-year-old’s situation.
Medial ligament damage on average takes six weeks to heal according to research. However, if not as bad as it currently looks, the player may be back in a week. Chances of such happening are however tight considering Ndidi has faced similar problems in the past.
The unfortunate situation of Ndidi may turn out to be a blessing for the likes of Oghenekaro Etebo and Frank Onyeka or even Ogenyi Onazi who all can feature well in the defensive midfield position where the injured Leicester City star flourishes
Ndidi was one of the few players that played all three group games for the Super Eagles at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and his presence in the team has always been a massive boost
