Gasperini unhappy with Atalanta and Lookman impasse as analyst proffers solution
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini says that he is “sorry to see” the transfer soap opera between Inter Milan, Atalanta, and Ademola Lookman.
The current Roma and former Atalanta coach gave his thoughts on the high-profile transfer saga on Sky Sport Italia.
The transfer soap opera between Inter, Atalanta, and Ademola Lookman has dominated the headlines over the last week.
The Nigerian international very publicly demanded a transfer to Atalanta last weekend. This was after Atalanta had rejected a second offer from the Nerazzurri.
Then, Lookman took things a step further. The 27-year-old – who had already scrubbed all traces of Atalanta from his social media accounts – began no-showing training.
There’s no indication that Lookman plans to return to training for Atalanta.
The player is determined to force through the move to Inter, as he believes that La Dea had promised as much last summer.
Former La Dea coach Gian Piero admitted that he is “sorry to see the situation.”
“We’ve had some great times together,” he said of himself and Lookman at Atalanta.
“But unfortunately, there’s always the risk of only remembering these players for how things ended.”
“He’s had so many great moments,” Gasperini said of Lookman at Atalanta.

“But now we’re just thinking about the last one.”
“I feel sorry for the player and for the club,” said Gasperini, who was at the helm of Atalanta for a total of nine years.
“I just hope everything gets resolved for everyone involved.”
Meanwhile, as Inter are still considering whether or not to come in with another bid for wantaway Lookman, Corriere dello Sport revealed Inter are still considering coming in with a new bid for Lookman, their priority transfer target in attack.
The report indicates that there are two ways Inter are prepared to improve on their recently rejected €45m offer.
Option one is to increase the offer to a total package worth €50m, of which at least €45m will be in fixed fees.
The second option for Inter is to raise the total cost of the operation up to around €46m or €47m and also offer Atalanta a young U23, Primavera or academy talent in the deal, which would also effectively boost the total cost up to around €50m.
