Fury and Joshua negotiations stalled by Queen’s death
Sport across the UK has since been put on halt, after the death of the Queen on Thursday
Promoter Frank Warren has revealed negotiations over a fight between Tyson Fury and Nigerian- born former World Champion, Anthony Joshua have been put on hold following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Fury recently called Joshua out on social media, offering him a shot at the WBC title in a fight at the end of the year in the UK. A split of 60-40, in favour of Fury, was accepted by Joshua as progress appeared to be made between the two camps.
That stalled as the date of the bout seemingly appeared to be a stumbling issue, Fury wanting it November or at the very latest the start of December while Joshua favours later in the month following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last month.
Sport across the UK has since been put on halt, after the death of the Queen on Thursday.
Premier League fixtures over the weekend were postponed while boxing cards, including the undisputed clash between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall at the 02 Arena, were called off.
While Fury and his promoter Warren set Joshua a deadline of Thursday to accept their offer, it’s now claimed that talks have been put on hold out of respect for Britain’s longest reigning monarch.
“We’ve put it all on hold at the moment,” Warren told talkSPORT. “It wasn’t appropriate obviously. That’s how we feel.
“We’ve put it on hold and will pick up on it in the next week or so.
“From our perspective, we don’t feel it is appropriate out of respect for what has happened.”
