Premier League managers

Pre-season summer tours are back. After successive summers where Premier League clubs were unable to travel abroad because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, most of the top-flight clubs have jumped at the chance of venturing overseas. It is a way of making up for lost finances, of course, as well as preparing for the 2022-23 season, which kicks off on August 5.

Arsenal

Arsenal open their pre-season schedule with a match against the German second division side Nürnberg at their Max-Morlock-Stadion home on July 8, which will mark the end of a training camp at Adidas’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria. Mikel Arteta’s side will then travel to the US before concluding their pre-season with the invitational Emirates Cup against Sevilla.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa will travel to Australia for their pre-season tour after an opening game against Sky Bet League Two side Walsall on July 9. They face Leeds United on July 17 in Brisbane, Brisbane Roar on July 20 and Manchester United on July 23 in Perth. Steven Gerrard’s team will conclude their preparations for the new campaign with a friendly against Rennes on July 30.

Bournemouth

July 30: Real Sociedad, Vitality Stadium

Bournemouth’s matches against Sheffield Wednesday and Braga will be played behind closed doors in Portugal. They have friendlies against Bristol City and La Liga side Real Sociedad scheduled on July 23 and July 30.

Brighton play the Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, who are owned by the Brighton chairman Tony Bloom, in a behind-closed-doors friendly on July 9. According to local press, they will travel to Portugal for a private training camp from July 10 to July 17, where they will play another behind-closed-doors game, although Brighton have not officially announced this. They will then play friendlies against Reading, Brentford, and one more opponent still to be confirmed on the weekend of July 29.

Chelsea

Chelsea will begin life under their new American owner, Todd Boehly, with a trip to the US. They will face Mexican side Club America in Las Vegas in the early hours of July 17 (UK time), Charlotte FC in North Carolina on July 21 and Arsenal in Orlando on July 23.

They face Liverpool at Singapore’s National Stadium in Kallang on July 15, Manchester United at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on July 19 and Leeds United at the Optus Stadium in Perth on July 22. Patrick Vieira’s team return to Selhurst Park for a friendly against Montpellier on July 30.

Everton

Everton will play two pre-season fixtures in the US this summer, facing Arsenal in Baltimore in the early hours of July 17 (UK time) and Major League Soccer side Minnesota United on July 21 at their Allianz Field home.

Fulham will take part in a mini-tournament in Portugal as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. They face Nice and Benfica at the Estádio Algarve on July 16 and July 17 before meeting the Portuguese side Estoril Praia at their stadium on July 24. They will host Villarreal at Craven Cottage on July 31.

Leeds United

Leeds will play three games in Queensland and Perth as part of the invitational Queensland Champions Cup with Aston Villa and Brisbane Roar after facing Blackpool on July 7. They will face Brisbane on July 14 and Villa on July 17, before playing Crystal Palace at ICON, Perth’s Festival of International Football, on July 22. Their last pre-season friendly is against Cagliari at Elland Road on July 31.

Liverpool have friendlies planned in several countries. They will open their pre-season against Manchester United in Bangkok on July 12 before travelling to Singapore to face Crystal Palace on July 15. Jürgen Klopp’s team will then take on RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg in Germany and Austria before playing Manchester City in the Community Shield on July 30 and Strasbourg at Anfield on July 31.

Pep Guardiola’s team will travel to the US for their two pre-season friendlies. Fans will get a chance to see Erling Haaland in action for City for the first time on July 21, when they face the Mexican side Club América in Houston. They then face Bayern Munich in the USA Cup at the Green Bay Packers’s Lambeau Field on July 24 before the Community Shield against Liverpool.

Manchester United

They will finish their pre-season preparations with games against Aston Villa in Perth on July 23, Atletico Madrid in Oslo on July 30 and a home match against Rayo Vallecano on July 31.

Newcastle United

They will also travel to Portugal for the Eusebio Cup against Benfica on July 26, before returning to St James’ Park for friendlies against Atalanta on July 29 and Athletic Club on July 30. Their pre-season begins with a friendly against Gateshead, managed by the former Newcastle defender Mike Williamson, on July 9.

Nottingham Forest

They will play Burton Albion on July 12 and Barnsley on July 16 before a game against Hertha Berlin — bizarrely, also being played at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium — and a trip to Union Berlin on July 23 to face record signing Taiwo Awoniyi’s former club.

Southampton will visit Austria for a pre-season camp from July 13 to July 20. They will face Austrian Bundesliga side Klagenfurt as part of that trip on July 18 — whose squad includes Ralph Hasenhüttl’s son, Patrick. They will close out pre-season with games against Watford on July 23 and Villarreal at St Mary’s on July 30.

Tottenham Hotspur

Antonio Conte’s team will return to the UK to face Rangers at Ibrox on July 23, before travelling to Israel for a match against José Mourinho’s Roma side on July 30.

West Ham United
