Nigeria U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles on Wednesday evening qualified for the semifinals of the WAFU regional sub tournament ahead of the 2023 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt following their 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso.
Ibrahim Muhammad played a huge part in Nigeria's opening goal in the 24th minute but it cannot be credited to the Maikunkele FC striker.
His delightful chip into the box cannoned off the woodwork and onto the leg of the Burkina Faso goalkeeper Philippe Mare before ending up in the back of the net.
Burkina Faso equalised from the penalty spot early in the second half after some questionable defending by the Nigerians.
However, Ladan Bosso and his team regained the lead in the 69th minute courtesy of a brilliant penalty scored by Ibrahim Yahaya after a Flying Eagles player was sent to the floor by the strong hands of the opposing keeper.
With eight minutes left on the clock, Burkina Faso restored parity to make for some nervy moments at the death.
Seven-time African champions Nigeria will face one of Ivory Coast, Benin or Niger in the semifinal and the tie comes up on May 17 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey.
