FIFA has officially announced the launch dates for two groundbreaking tournaments in women's football: the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, set to debut in 2028, and the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, which will begin in 2026.

These tournaments mark a significant step in the evolution of the women's game, creating new global platforms for club competition.

Following discussions with confederations and key stakeholders, the FIFA Council confirmed that the first edition of the Women’s Club World Cup will take place in 2028 and will feature a competitive and inclusive format with 19 teams.

The tournament will begin with a **play-in phase**, where six clubs will compete for three spots in the main competition.

These three teams will then join **13 automatically qualified clubs**, forming **four groups of four**.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the **knockout stage**, ultimately determining the world’s best women’s club team.

FIFA has also revealed the **slot allocation** for the inaugural tournament. **AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), Concacaf (North and Central America), and CONMEBOL (South America) will each receive two direct slots, along with one play-in slot.

UEFA (Europe) will be allocated five direct slots and one play-in slot, while OFC (Oceania) will receive a single play-in slot.**

This distribution ensures broad global representation, giving clubs from different regions the chance to compete at the highest level.

In addition to the Club World Cup, FIFA has introduced the **FIFA Women’s Champions Cup**, which will be held in years when the Club World Cup does not take place.

This competition will bring together **the six winners of the confederation club championships** to battle for a new global title. The tournament will begin with a **preliminary stage**, where the AFC champions will host the OFC champions in the first round.

The winner of that match will then travel to face the CAF champions in the second round. The team that advances will move on to the semi-finals, where they will face the UEFA champions, while the Concacaf champions will take on the CONMEBOL champions in the other semi-final.

The final phase of the Women’s Champions Cup, including the **semi-finals, third-place playoff, and final**, will take place on fixed dates in upcoming years.

The **2026 edition** will be held from **January 28 to February 1**, the **2027 edition** from **January 27 to January 31**, and the **2029 edition** from **January 24 to January 28**.

These new tournaments represent a major milestone in the global development of women's club football.
