"Fasting and betting"– Naira Marley's Ramadan post sparks debate
While some saw the humor in his words, others were quick to turn the tables on him, questioning his own lifestyle choices

Nigerian artist and Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley, has once again set social media on fire—this time with a playful but thought-provoking Ramadan message. In a recent post, the controversial singer called out football fans who are fasting for Ramadan while still placing bets on football matches.
"You are fasting (observing Ramadan) and still betting on football? Go and eat please," he wrote, adding a couple of unimpressed emojis for extra effect.
While some saw the humor in his words, others were quick to turn the tables on him, questioning his own lifestyle choices.
One fan clapped back: "You are fasting and still making money from the worldly song you sing? Go return ham." Another added, "Cuz person dey fast make e no find money...
All of you are deceiving yourself. So it's only during fasting that you don’t do all these? After fasting, you return to it—practicing religion."
The debate didn’t stop there. Some took the conversation in a different direction, asking philosophical (or outright hilarious) questions.
"What if it’s a holy betting? Can I still continue fasting?" one person joked. Another wrote, "Brother, I’m fasting, but if Man City doesn’t win, I might have to break my fast early."
As always, Naira Marley knows how to get people talking. Whether he was genuinely calling for self-discipline or just having a laugh, his post has sparked a broader discussion about faith, personal choices, and the fine line between devotion and daily life.
One thing is clear: whether it's betting, making music, or just scrolling through social media—everyone has their own way of balancing faith and the world.
But for some football fans, the real test of patience isn't fasting... it's waiting for their bet to cash out.
