Fans believe Drake ‘Curse’ affected Ngannou against AJ as rapper loses $600,000 bet after Cameroonian defeat

Rapper Drake may be known for his hits, but he is also a huge sports betting man.

Drake is in the headlines again following Friday night’s boxing match result between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.

Fans believed Ngannou 'cursed' himself during the fight walkout before fighting Joshua by his song choice, sharing everything on social media.

One user said: "Why has Ngannou brought the Drake curse upon himself with this walkout song?"

Another commented: "Francis Ngannou has just cursed himself having Drake as his music"

A third put: "Ngannou coming out to Drake, it's game over for him."

The reactions came after Drake announced that he placed a bet of $600,000 (£500,000) on Ngannou to emerge victorious against Joshua in their heavyweight bout.

Headlining the 'Knockout Chaos' event, the MMA fighter-turned-boxer Ngannou was the heavy underdog against former two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua.

The fight came following Joshua's back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022, where the boxer lost his WBO, IBF, IBO, and WBA titles.

The 34-year-old then followed this up with three wins on the bounce against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, and Otto Wallin.

Following these victories, MMA fighter-turned-boxer Ngannou stood up against him in the ring following his controversial split decision loss to Tyson Fury last December, in his first-ever pro boxing match.

Drake has previously bet $850,000 (£660,000) on Logan Paul to win by knockout in his bout against Dillon Danis, and despite the influencer emerging victorious, he lost the bet as Danis was disqualified.

The Canadian artist also bet $400,000 (£311,000) on his brother Jake Paul to win by knockout against British boxer Tommy Fury, but Fury emerged victorious.

To top it all off, he last placed a bet of $700,000 (£661,000) on Sean Strickland winning his match against Dricus du Plessis, but he lost yet again.

Not a great record so far.

And it looks like the 'One Dance' star's bad luck may just be continuing after Friday night's result.

The rapper put his neck on the line for a Ngannou victory.

In the build-up to the fight, there was a war of words between Joshua and Ngannou at the final press conference.

Joshua branded himself as 'the postman' as he stated 'I deliver' when asked if he would win the fight.

Ngannou on the other hand, said he would be fighting against the odds: “I am the underdog, I am going out there to prove that you can be an underdog and stand your ground.”

He also stated that if Joshua crossed over to MMA, he would 'smoke him', also adding about other boxers: "I am the only one to go in their backyard, none of them can come in my backyard. I would take two of them at once."
