Everton eye Celtic manager to replace Lampard

Everton will make a move to hire Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou if they feel the need to sack Frank Lampard.

Media reports in Scotland on Sunday revealed that Everton’s board are concerned by the team’s form and “Lampard is in danger” of a second relegation battle in a row.

It is understood that the Goodson hierarchy like former Australia manager Postecoglou because he’s “straight-talking” and plays “fast and attractive football”.

Reports add that Postecoglou, who won the Scottish Premiership in his debut season at Celtic last term and currently has them nine points clear at the top of the table, has the same agent as Lampard, “so he would be well informed about the club and the salary they pay if the call comes”.

A decision could be made on Lampard’s future early in the New Year if results do not improve after the World Cup break.

Lampard certainly has improved upon the mess that he inherited from Rafa Benitez but his side still sits just a point above the Premier League’s relegation zone in mid-November.

The club is in a relegation battle – again – and that’s simply not good enough.

But of all the issues at the club, the managerial one is not the one that currently needs fixing.

Of course, it’s the easiest issue to fix. But the major issues at Goodison have to be the playing squad and the ownership because they’re the ones that have stayed almost consistent either side of Lampard’s time on Merseyside.
