Euro 2024: Musiala says “Germany can still do better”

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala helped Germany to a 5-1 win over Scotland on Friday with his Man of the Match performance but knows that the journey is just beginning — and that there is still much work to be done.

“We all carry pressure on our shoulders. When we’re on the pitch, working for each other, you don’t feel the pressure. We won’t let the win get to our heads and we want to do the same on Wednesday,” the Bayern Munich star said.

“We’ll look back at this game, see what we can do better and what we need.

“To win that comfortably was a good sign for everyone, and for us as well. We can take that confidence going into the next game. I was quite happy with the game. There are things we can still do better. We’ll go into the next game with the same mentality and take things step by step.

“There’s lots of variety in our attack, which I like. We all get on well. Over the games and weeks, hopefully, our connection will grow and we’ll keep working on it.”

One of the important connections for Germany is the return of Real Madrid star Toni Kroos to the national team. Musiala confirmed Kroos’ leadership presence was a lift off the field, too.

“Toni is an important player for us. I have so much respect for him and what he has done in his career. He gave a little speech before the game to fire us up.” Musiala added.

An on-fire he was — a goal, 100% pass completion, and five successful dribbles in 74 minutes played.

Asked after the game if the performance was the game of his life to date, Musiala replied simply: “Yes, you can say that.”
