EPL: Goal scorer Iwobi regrets dropped points against Everton as Boniface scores for Leverkusen

Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi was phlegmatic after Fulham failed to hold onto the lead he established for them at Everton this evening – as the Whites were denied three points on his return to Goodison Park by Beto’s late, late leveller.
The Nigerian international struck a superb second-half opener from just outside the box after a brilliant individual dribble from Emile Smith Rowe. His low-key celebration in front of the travelling fans was a testament to how special he considered his years on the blue half of Merseyside.
Iwobi told Sky Sports after the final whistle:
“It would have been a nice feeling to get three points against my old club but we weren’t able to see it out. We have to take the positives. I enjoyed my time at Everton and left on a good note. I hope they do well, but I didn’t want them to do well today. I wish them all the best. It’s all well and good performing well and playing well, but the way to climb up the table is to get results.”
Elsewhere, Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, was on target as his club drew away to Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga.
The 23-year-old missed Die Werkself’s midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Brest but was recalled into Xabi Alonso’s starting eleven as they travelled to Weser Stadion.
The Nigerian striker broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark, tapping home with his left foot from a Jeremie Frimpong cross to score his sixth league goal of the season.
The away side continued to press on for the game’s second in the first half but the home side came with guns blazing in the second half.
Victor Boniface was withdrawn in the 70th minute and was replaced by Patrik Schick. Four minutes later, Werder drew level. A brilliant through ball Julian Malatini was swept home brilliantly by Marvin Ducksch.
Leverkusen encountered a stroke of luck three minutes later as they went in front but only for a few minutes. A shot from Patrik Schick was blocked, but an onrushing Felix Agu couldn’t get out of the way and the German full-back bundled the ball into his net, giving the away side the lead.
Nigeria-eligible attacker, Felix Njinmah turned provider off the bench in the 90th minute, feeding a pass into Romano Schmidt’s path. The German struck the ball from outside the box, way beyond Lukas Hradecky’s reach.
Leverkusen are currently third in the Bundesliga, five points behind league leaders, RB Leipzig.
