Osimhen Transfer news

Newcastle United have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen following their Champions League qualification, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nigerian star has had a splendid campaign with the Naples outfit. He has scored 28 goals and provided five assists from just 37 appearances across all competitions.

United have been closely following him since last summer but it appears they are set to face huge competition for his services when the transfer window reopens.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing the 24-year-old but there is now fresh competition from Eddie Howe’s side for the talented centre-forward.

The Magpies have reportedly ‘raised their market objectives’ after securing Champions League football and have their sights on a big-money transfer for Osimhen this summer.

The Magpies are back in the Champions League after two decades but United remain one of the most lucrative clubs for any striker. The big question is whether they can pay the fee.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis could hold out for a staggering €160 million to sell Osimhen this summer. United may not make such a hefty outlay without player sales.

Chelsea are also interested in signing Osimhen this summer, according to reports.

Apparently, he’s the priority target for Chelsea this summer in their search to sign a new frontman.

90min reported last month that Chelsea are confident they can win the race to sign Osimhen even without the offer of Champions League football next season. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport later argued that Chelsea are not the frontrunners to get Osimhen this summer.

Osimhen has played as well as any forward in the world during this season, so it would be quite the achievement if Chelsea can bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The latest suitor is Arsenal who is being urged on by pundit Jay Bothroyd to sign Osimhen from Napoli this summer.

The pundit was speaking to FourFourTwo about the Gunners’ summer transfer plans, and he claims that the north London club need a new striker through the door.

Indeed, Bothroyd isn’t convinced by the firepower in Arsenal’s squad right now, and he says that Osimhen could be just what the doctor ordered at the Emirates, claiming that the ‘powerful’ striker could be perfect for the Gunners.

“I would say we need a striker. I look at Arsenal now and I see Martinelli, Jesus and Saka. Saka is one of the best wingers in the world, and Jesus, as much as he’s good for Arsenal, his best work comes from the wide areas. He doesn’t convince me he can score 20 Premier League goals every year. Even at City he didn’t do it. We need an out-and-out goalscorer, for me I would like to see Osimhen come from Napoli, he’s strong, he’s powerful, good link-up play, he’s fast and he has an eye for goal,” Bothroyd said.

Arsenal has also joined Manchester United in the race for the signature of  Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae.

The Gunners are looking to add reinforcements to their backline in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the South Korea international has popped up on their radar.

However, the Partenopei are hoping to keep hold of the defender. The Serie A giants want the 26-year-old to sign a new contract before the release clause, which is between £35–£52 million, in his existing deal kicks in next summer.

Min-jae has been pivotal to Napoli’s success in the current campaign. He has admirably replaced Kalidou Koulibaly in the Naples-based club’s backline after the Senegal international’s transfer to Chelsea last summer.
