Arsenal continued their fine start to the season in the Premier League on Wednesday night as they battled to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Gabriel Martinelli got the all-important winning goal for the Gunners after the earlier strike by Gabriel Jesus was cancelled out by Douglas Luiz's goal for Villa.

The latest win means Arsenal have won all five league matches they have played so far as they continue to enjoy one of their best-ever starts to the league season.

While the Gunners did just enough for the three points, Manchester City were ruthless in their home game against Nottingham Forest; beating the new Premier League boys 6-0 at the Etihad...

Just like he did his last outing before tonight, Erling Haaland grabbed the headlines as he scored a perfect hat-trick inside 38 minutes to make history for City and the Premier League as whole.

The Norwegian after putting City 2-0 up with two finishes from close-range he capped his spectacular outing with another goal he converted from John Stones' header.

With this, Haaland made it nine goals in his first five Premier League matches which is a new competition record.

After the Haaland show, City were far from done as Joao Cancelo extended the lead further with a fine long-range effort.

The final moments were for another new City acquisition, Julian Alvarez who opened his Premier League goal-scoring account with two more goals of his own in what was his first start.

While the Forest manager brought in the Nigerian duo of Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis just before the hour mark to help salvage what was left of a miserable night, the two strikers only huffed and puffed with no goal to show for their efforts.

Other games

Elsewhere, Tomas Soucek's strike earned West Ham a 1-1 draw against Tottenham and prevented their London rivals from making their best-ever start to a Premier League season after five matches.

At Anfield, Fabio Carvalho was the hero after he scored a last gasp winner in the 98th minute to give Liverpool all three points in a game they probably did not deserve to win.

After the 9-0 annihilation of Bournemouth, many were hoping to see the Reds wreck damage against Newcastle also but that was never the case.

The Magpies who hitherto were unbeaten gave the Reds a run for their money and were almost walking away with a precious point before the late winning goal from Carvalho.
