Eni Aluko urges Arsenal or Chelsea to snap up Osimhen after heroics against Tottenham in Europa League
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen reminded his former and current suitors of his goalscoring prowess on Thursday night, finding the net against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League.
TNT Sports pundit Eni Aluko believes that Premier League sides should be exploring the possibility of signing the striker permanently from Napoli. The Nigerian has netted four goals in five domestic games for Galatasaray.
Aluko thinks Arsenal and Chelsea should be looking to snap up Napoli’s wantaway striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international made a shock loan move to Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray in the summer after months of swirling rumours linking him away from his parent club.
And while Osmihen signed a new deal with the Serie A league leaders before his loan switch to Istanbul, a transfer to the Premier League in January is not out of the question.
Osimhen showed his ruthlessness in front of goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, netting a first-half brace, proving Aluko’s prescient claim that he is “guaranteed goals” correct.
The TNT Sports expert said: “He’s guaranteed goals. Even though he’s fallen out with Napoli. He scores goals. He’s great in the air, a physical presence. He’s a sort of throwback.
“He’ll always run down the centre. He’s not interested in coming deep. He’ll go down the gut of teams. He just wants to get in the box and he dominates. He wants that contact with defenders.
“I respect the fact that he’s not gone to Saudi Arabia, because I think he could’ve done. But I think he knows that he can still play at the highest level.
“And ultimately I think what makes a lot of these players is their character, that bit of maverick about them.
“So I think an Arsenal or a Chelsea should be looking at him. Arsenal in particular, who’ve got goalscoring problems.”
Arsenal have failed to score in four matches this season, including in their last two games, with the total for the whole of their previous campaign standing at just eight.
The Nigerian scored 66 goals across all competitions for Napoli in the three previous seasons before he joined Galatasaray in the summer.
Osimhen signed for the Turkish giants on a one-year loan after a deal with Chelsea reportedly fell through in August.
And Joe Cole thought it was the wrong move for the 25-year-old, who dropped his agent Roberto Calenda at the end of a turbulent transfer window.
“I blame his agent,” said Cole. “For a lad that was the best player in Italy, there have been so many big clubs calling out for strikers banging in goals.
“He put himself in a situation where it was untenable for him to stay at Napoli but they couldn’t get the price they wanted for him.
“He shouldn’t be at Galatasaray. He should be at a top, top club in Europe but he’s there. He’s got to score goals, bang them in and find his way, hopefully to the Premier League.
“I think he’s a real talent. I don’t know. There must be something missing where the big clubs have looked at him and gone, I’m not sure.”
Aluko responded that Osimhen’s reported release clause of £109.5 million might have dissuaded Premier League clubs from making a move, though this has been reduced after signing a new contract until June 2027.
“I think the price tag scared a lot of teams off. I think it’s €130 million the break clause. That’s a lot of money for the Arsenals who are probably looking at him,” said Aluko
“I think it’s come down now because Napoli want to do a deal. I think it’s come down to €90 million [for January] which I think is a steal.”
