Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen said he would return to his role as NFF technical director after Nigeria was eliminated for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations by Tunisia.
The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia took the lead in the 48th when a weak strike from Yousef Mskani beat Maduka Okoye to end Nigeria's campaign in the competition.
Still smarting from Super Eagles 1-0 loss to Tunisia on Sunday, Eguavoen could not hide his frustration after Super Eagles failed to live up their pre-match rating as one of the tournament's favorites.
He disclosed that he would be waiting to hear from his employers in the coming days as Nigerians struggle to come to terms with Super Eagles' woeful performance against Tunisia.
" I am very disappointed we couldn't make it count when it mattered most. I have done my job,  I will return to my post as technical director and hear from my employers," he said.
With three wins in the group stage, Nigeria was highly tipped to run Tunisia over after Carthage Eagles had its head coach and players tested positive to Covid-19 a few days to the clash. But the north Africans rose to the occasion and scored in the 48th minute to bundle Nigeria out of the competition despite coming into the clash as Group E's best losers.
It remains to be seen how Nigeria picks up the pieces and bounces back from rock bottom ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup playoffs against perennial rival, Ghana in March.
