Eguavoen and Finidi's appointment has the Eagles’ interim coach a hoax, which could be the work of a fifth columnist.

The appointment of Technical Director of NFF Augustine Eguavoen and Enyimba International head coach Finidi George has been described as fake news by sources close to the NFF and the two coaches.

On Friday, the media was awash with the news of Eguavoen and Finidi’s appointment as Super Eagles interim coach after the exit of Jose Peseiro earlier.

This medium also carried the story but added that there was no official communication from the NFF, and Ademola Olajire the NFF Director of Communications could not be reached but the media was rife with the news of Eguavoen and Finidi's appointment.

Saturday morning an official of the NFF who spoke to 234sportsng.com off the record described the news as the work of desperadoes who wanted to coach the Super Eagles at all cost despite not having the pedigree and he is setting up his colleagues in the media.

Said our sources, “ Traditionally, in most football federations across the world, the Technical Director is normally instructed to take over the national team on an interim basis once the team coach is sacked, if he resigns or the contract is over like the case of Jose Peseiro but our technical committee has not met to decide on the way forward neither has the Secretary-General communicated to Eguavoen that he should take over the team.

“Secondly, the NFF communicates appointments to Nigerians through Ademola Olajire our Director of Communications but in this case, there was no official communication from NFF. I strongly believe this is the work of a fifth columnist who wants to coach the Eagles and he is using his friends in the media to set up his colleagues in the coaching fraternity”.
