Egbukwu takes talent hunting to another level

Former football star Uche Dominic Egbukwu whose career was cut short by injury has described Nigeria as a country with limitless talented footballers.

Speaking in Lagos over the weekend at the conclusion of his latest exercise with a foreign scout from Sweden at the Mobaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, he revealed that Nigeria is probably the country with the most talent in the world.

Egbukwu now the head of Udeh Sports Management Limited specializes in discovering talents, after sustaining an injury in a friendly game between Enyimba FC of Aba and AC Milan ended his career back in 1997. Enyimba lost 7-1 against  Milan in the friendly game.

Egbukwu expressed gratitude to God that his venture into discovering and harnessing talents has led to his discovery and transfer of multiple Nigerian players abroad.

They include Vincent Enyeama, Dele Ayeinugba, Victor Oshimen, Kelechi Iheanacho, the Nwakali brothers and others.

He recalled that at the time he was injured, he thought it was the end of the world but he shifted his passion from playing to discovering talents and representing players since 2008 and has no regret.

The latest scouting program has a representative from Hammarby Football Club of Sweden(Mikaeal Hjelmberg) saw the discovery of two outstanding players.

Hjelmberg is not new to Nigerian players. He was one that scouted Akinwumi Amoo and he spoke highly about the player and other talented players from Africa.

"Amoo is a very good player that I have watched him a series of times before I picked him up after a scouting program in Cote d’Ivoire  and he was eventually signed by Hammarby club in Sweden before he moved to Copenhagen.”

Hjelmberg promised that the two players that were discovered by him would soon move to Hammarby FC in Sweden.

Another edition of the scouting program is coming up from October 15 in Lagos with scouts from Inter Milan, RedStar Belgrade,

and Bayern Munich.
