Team Nigeria senior women basketball team that defeated world number five on FIBA ranking France and neighbor Mali to qualify for the FIBA Women World Cup will arrive Nigeria on Tuesday in the evening according to media reports.

The team will leave Belgrade, Serbia the host city of the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers around 9 am for Nigeria via Istanbul, Turkey.

Our girls qualified for the FIBA Women World Cup by beating France and Mali on Friday and Sunday respectively.

The team shocked highly-rated France 67-65 and handed a defeat to Mali 73-69 in their second and third group matches after a loss to China in the opener.

Meanwhile, members of the team are not just dreaming of a good outing in Australia but they are sure of making it to the quarter-final.

Promise Amukamara a member of the team told the media that they are not going to Australia for sightseeing or making up the number but to play at least in the quarter-final. 

Amukamara played an active role in the qualification as she put up an amazing performance to ensure that the team returned to winning ways after they lost the first match to China.

“I think this tournament was the best one for us because we had to put absolutely everything together with no training camp or preparation. We believed in ourselves.

“Now we just have to get back healthy and the sky is the limit. We have already shocked a lot of the world. We won’t be just turning up (in Sydney), we will have a different mindset and will be reaching for the Quarter-Finals,” she told the media.
