Real Madrid basketball team got the best of rival Barcelona as Los Blancos defeated the Catalan side to reach Euroleague finals on Thursday.
European basketball fans were given a treat on Thursday night as the EuroLeague final semi-finals were played out in breathtaking fashion, and Real Madrid got the better of old rivals Barcelona in a thriller.
The team from the capital won 86-83 in the end, but things got tense towards the end in a stunning fourth quarter that saw the Catalans pick up 27 points to Real Madrid's 26.
Los Blancos have had a tough time against Barcelona this year, despite beating them in the pre-season Supercopa.
Since then, they had lost five in a row against the Catalans prior to Thursday's European semi-final.But on the big stage, Real Madrid stepped up and played, managing to overcome a Barcelona side driven on by a sensational Nikola Mirotic.
He led Barcelona to a 54-43 lead midway through the third quarter, but if this last year has taught us anything about Real Madrid as a club, it's that they never know then they're beaten.
From there, they put together a 17-2 run to lead 60-56 and never really looked back, despite some late jitters.
The fourth quarter started with them leading and although Barcelona had the edge in the final minutes, Real Madrid were able to get over the line, securing their place in the final with a last-gasp three pointer.
