Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering re-signing David de Gea from Manchester United.

The experienced goalkeeper started his career at Atletico, making 84 first-team appearances for the Red and Whites before moving to Man United in the summer of 2011.

The 32-year-old has made 507 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, including 20 outings this term, with the stopper once again the number one at Old Trafford.

There is uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, though, with his current deal due to expire next year.

Man United have the option to extend his agreement for a further 12 months, which would take him until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, the club are yet to make a final decision on his future, with head coach Erik ten Hag believed to be considering sanctioning a move for a new number one.

According to Fichajes, Atletico are keeping a close eye on the situation, with the capital giants considering re-signing the Spaniard on a free transfer.

The report claims that the Red and Whites are willing to sell Jan Oblak for the right price next summer, and a departure for their current number one would lead to them considering a return for De Gea.

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have been linked with Oblak, while there have also been suggestions that Man United are interested in his signature.

"It is clear already and I have already emphasised it several times, I am really happy with David. He is a great goalkeeper," Ten Hag told reporters after De Gea's strong performance against West Ham United in October.

"He is only 31. He is fit. He can progress even more. He was already impressively good for Man United and I think he will do that in the future as well.

"Everyone has his own opinion but for me, the first thing for a goalkeeper is to protect the goal and make sure you don't concede goals. In that fact he is magnificent.

"But with the feet he has capabilities as well. That is not only with the keeper but also the one in front and what options you give to bring passes in. I am convinced he can do it. The games so far he proved it."

Martin Dubravka was given the nod between the sticks against Burnley in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, but De Gea is expected to be back in the side against Nottingham Forest in the league on December 27.
