Controversy as Usyk beats Dubois to defend title

British heavyweight Daniel Dubois was controversially beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in Poland though many think he was the winner after flooring the champ in the fifth round.

Dubois was stopped by the Ukrainian in the ninth round of their clash, though many believe the Brit should have been deemed the winner after flooring his rival earlier in the fight.

Usyk was shaken and appeared to take a knee following a shot in the fifth round, though the referee deemed Dubois' punch to have been a low blow.

Usyk was then allowed almost four minutes to recover, with the punch seemingly waking the heavyweight champ from his slumber.

Dubois was floored in round eight with Usyk ending the fight in the next round with a brutal punch - though Dynamite was not impressed with the officiating.

Dubois said: “I didn’t think it was a low blow. I’ve been cheated out of victory.”

Dubois' promoter Frank Warren said the decision would be appealed, with Warren just as angry as his fighter.

Warren said on TNT Sports: "It wasn't a low blow. I wish they could put it up on there now and we could all see it. They didn't take any points off him.

"I like Usyk, but that was a complete home decision. He was not fit to go on and they gave him a couple of minutes to recover. It should be straight and it should be above board. How long did he get to recover?

"The governing bodies will have to look at that and order a rematch. We will order an appeal to what happened here. It's all about a legitimate punch that stopped him and he should have won.

"Everyone wants to see the unification. If Daniel had got the result then it would have been easy to do. We will see now."
